I'm Jose — a senior engineer who has shipped AI-powered creative tools at Epidemic Sound, helped take Disney+ from inception to global launch, and built platforms behind MLB, HBO Now, ESPN+ and NHL. I lead without needing the title: architecture, mentorship, and calm in chaotic projects.
A few projects I architected, led, or built — with the numbers to back them up.
Built natural-language search across music and sound effects on a streaming GraphQL backend — established the subscription and codegen foundations the team still builds on. Co-designed the API with backend, and owned the tracking design now cited internally as a best-practice template.
Architected Track Edits (shorten, extend, loop tracks) from TDD to launch — including the product's first multi-audio-engine architecture — and built the UI for AI Voices, a studio-quality text-to-speech product built around real voice artists.
Joined pre-launch and contributed across the React/TypeScript frontend, the Node.js backend-for-frontend gateway, and the cloud infrastructure that let Disney+ launch and scale across the US, LATAM, and Europe.
Architected semantic search, Topics, and Find Similar; led the MusicBrainz migration that scaled the genre taxonomy from ~100 to 1,600+ genres. Multi-year track record of moving the product's primary search metrics.
Sixteen years shipping web products — from QA automation to full-stack, platform architecture, and AI product engineering.
Architect and lead developer on AI products (Assistant, Track Edits, AI Voices) and search quality. Interim Tech Lead for a year — quarterly planning, mentorship, Tech Council. Recognized cross-domain expert on tracking and experimentation.
Helped build Disney+ from inception to global launch: React/TypeScript frontend, Node.js BFF gateway (routing, caching, performance), and the cloud infrastructure for multi-region launch, traffic management, and failover.
Built a reusable Node.js framework adopted by 5 major brands — MLB, HBO Now, NHL, ESPN+, GoPro — and led the GoPro web app end-to-end: UI, backend, AWS infrastructure, and Dockerized workflows.
Grew from IC to managing automation teams in New York and Dublin, then moved into engineering: scaled email delivery to 6M+ messages/day in Scala, cut password-reset delivery from 5 minutes to under 5 seconds, and led the responsive redesign of gilt.com.
The person behind the commits.
My managers' words, not mine: "a de-facto informal leader on every team" and someone who "brought a calmness to what started as a chaotic project." That's the through-line of my career — I create structure, safety, and momentum whether or not I hold the formal title.
I've onboarded and mentored engineers at every stop, run workshops to fix the code nobody wanted to touch, and I care as much about how a team works together as what it ships. Technically, I live where frontend architecture meets product: React, TypeScript, Node.js, GraphQL, and lately a lot of AI-powered product experiences.
When something feels broken — fragile tracking, a chaotic project, a search experience that underdelivers — I don't wait to be asked. I write the doc, build the consensus, and lead the fix.
That's me — Jose.
